Chancellor's Communications and Resource Center

The Chancellor's Communications and Resource Center (CCRC) is part of the Chancellor's Immediate Office within the Office of the Chancellor.
The unit was established in 1952 with the appointment of Berkeley's first Chancellor, Clark Kerr and is responsible for the implementation of a life cycle program of archives records management and workflow integration within the Chancellor's Immediate Office and senior administration.

Utilizing both traditional record-keeping formats and emerging communications technology, CCRC staff performs a variety of professional duties in the areas of information resource management, records systems analysis, archival appraisal strategies, website development and electronic access, and support of campuswide information users.

CCRC serves as an information source on current and historical topics and acts as records management advisor to campus units. The goal is to coordinate access to authentic organizational records while ensuring their security and their intellectual and physical integrity.

The Center's staff reviews thousands of documents annually to determine the retention value. The documents are cataloged and the document information is entered into a client-server database and tracking system, CCRC Tracker.

In January 1999, CCRC introduced the CCRC Tracker electronic document management and workflow system within the Chancellor's Office. CCRC Tracker allows multiple users access to documents, helping eliminate callbacks and other service delays.  Where previously paper documents could be difficult to locate and in the possession of just one user at a time, CCRC Tracker allows multiple viewing of a single document for information and/ or action.  CCRC staff currently support 15 Tracker client users and over 100 e-Tracker web-end users. eTracker can only be accessed with proper CalNet Authentication from this website:

https://etracker-ccrc.berkeley.edu/

CCRC serves as the functional owner and operating systems administrator for the CALmessages system. CALmessages is the campus' Web-based broadcast messaging system, providing email notifications to faculty and staff for official campus communications. CALmessages also provides subscription list functionality, allowing the creation of departmental or program subscription lists that are distributed via CALmessages. These lists are automatically maintained and updated by the CALmessages system. Additional information regarding the Calmessages system can be found at https://calmessages.berkeley.edu. Questions regarding the use of CALmessages can be sent to CALmessages@berkeley.edu or call Cindy Major, CALmessages Operating Systems Administrator at 510-642-3115.

CCRC is also responsible for the coordination and maintenance of the Campus Delegations of Authority . Delegations of Authority follow campus organizational lines and functional responsibility.  CCRC conducts ongoing reviews to determine if a delegation change must be made to appropriate officers in support of their function.  Also, as new delegations are issued from The Regents on an ongoing basis, CCRC redelegates the authorities given to the Chancellor by the President when applicable.

CCRC serves as the campus contact for both the UC Records Management Disposition and the UC Business and Finance Bulletins.  Records disposition refers to the destruction or systemic transfer to archival storage of records no longer needed for everyday operations.  CCRC provides guidance to all Berkeley campus departments and offices in administering the retention or disposition of their records.  Business and Finance Bulletins contain policies and guidelines on a variety of business and financial concerns that are uniform throughout the University system.  Delegations are issued by the Office of the Senior Vice President - Business and Finance and when permitted, CCRC redelegates this authority through a campus-generated Delegation of Authority letter.
